Following a story which appeared in this blog last week titled How they milk a sleeping elephant, TANESCO the national electricity supply corporation, undertook a check up operation on tuesday 4 September to try and catch power thieves around the transformer featured in the said story but failed miserably. The operation failed in part due to the reason that the tanesco staff were not accompanied by any law enforcement agents such as the police and also due to, according to claims by people familiar with the situation, the fact that the "trick" used in stealing power that way originated from tanesco workers themselves.
The operatives were met with machete wielding "clients" and were warned not to set foot around those areas again so they set off running to their vehicle and speeding back to their safe Moshi office.
Field work can be such an unpredictable endeavor if you plan negligently. All in all power is being consumed as usual as we wait for tanesco to pull together and arrange another sting operation,if at all.
