COULD THIS ‘HAPPY ACCIDENT’ LEAD TO AN EXTENDED PRESIDENTIAL TERM?

The current constitutional draft has among other proposals the idea of separate Tanganyika and Zanzibar as well as a union government. Implying that if it passes the next hurdle, all indicators point that way, there is to begin a process for the Tanganyika constitution, this does not exist, and then a process for the union constitution which will involve both sides of the union. Basing on the length of time and the complexity of process involved in the constitution formation in process especially the collection of opinions countrywide and the assumption that each of these individual constitutions will need a distinct commission it is not likely that the processes will end within the present presidential semester.

While there are have been allegations based on observations that some neighbouring countries have had their presidents use trickery to extend their terms, some going as far as altering their countries’ constitutions, ours, if all goes as planned (chuckle),will be a smooth sail.Meanwhile the best profession currently is constitutional law.
